This is an international, globe hopping, jet set adventure of espionage, criminals, terrorist and love. The main character is trapped in a maze of international incidents and betrayal. He doesn't know who to trust or who to turn to in this thriller.
Den of Thieves edition by VR McCoy Literature Fiction eBooks
Den of Thieves by V.R. McCoy is self published novel released in 2013. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The author openly states at the beginning of the book that the character of Alex is based on Alexander Mundy a character on the television show "It Takes a Thief".
In all honesty, I have never seen this show and am totally unfamiliar with it's premise.
The book begins in Terra Haute where Alex, a former member of the CIA is being sprung from prison.
Alex now turns to a life a crime after being betrayed and losing his wife.
Reunited with Samantha, a ruthless assassin, the two embark on several adventures. Things go well for awhile, but take a tragic turn, leaving Alex stunned. Going through the motions, Alex continues to find trouble and takes yet another series of emotional blows.
Ultimately, Alex is able to make a peace with his life, at least for now.
If you love spies, globetrotting to unusual locations, lots of action and intrigue, you will really like this one.
For me, and this is just my opinion, I think men will really enjoy this book more than women. That is not to say women wouldn't like it, but I just see it appealing more to the guys. Alex is a little over the top with the women for me. It's sort of one after another. I don't mean he had numerous partners, he was always in a relationship, but I would hate to be one his girlfriends.
The first person telling of the story, may have been a mistake. First person is really hard to pull off, even for a seasoned author. It might be a good idea to start off with third person.
The author is obviously fond of the ladies and tells the story through a male perspective. That 's always interesting for a woman to see things from a guy's point of view.
I loved the locations and the illustrations were an added bonus. The story is fast paced and is more or less a telling of various adventures all around the world, with a connection to some of Alex's enemies.
The book ties everything up for now, but I could see Alex returning in the future, maybe working with his new lady friend.
The only other thing that needs to be noted is that there are a few misspellings and typos. This isn't a major issue, and only happens a few times, but when they do, it sort of stood out. However, this is one of those things that happens a lot in self publishing and it didn't effect the story for me. For some these things are pet peeves though.
Overall I would recommend this book to lovers of spy thrillers, intrigue, action adventure and thrillers.
I give this one a C+
